From a suit filed in 1888 in the Botetourt County in Fincastle, VA tosettle his estate and regarding the division of his real estate, we learnthey had seven children. The court case, A.M. Hayth, Jr. vs. John Q.A.Thrasher reads in the beginning as follows: To the Hon. Henry E. Blair,Judge, of the Circuit Court of Botetourt County, your orator, A.M. Haythhumbly complaining herewith unto your honor that in the year 1850,Achilles Moorman Hayth died leaving seven children of which your oratorwas one: to wit: William Boyer Hayth, Sarah F. Thrasher, "nee" Hayth,and George W. Hayth. Also, a widow, Catherine Hayth: that Achilles Haythwas possessed of large and valuable real estate and died intestate:thereby, leaving the said Catherine Hayth and the seven children asaforesaid his heir at law.. (This suit contends at length, to settle thedivision of property between the various heirs and to discuss thedispostion of the share of the estate of George W. He was a farmer and served in the Second Virginia Cavalry. He was also abuilder and surveyor of bridges. At one time he lived in Buchanan,Virginia.spouse: Shafer, Ella Nora (1847 - 1899)
While serving in the Second Virginia Cavalry, he was shot. He got hisfoot caught in his stirrup and was dragged until he broke free. The mannext to him saved him by stuffing a silk handkerchief into a deep wound.His horse was shot out from under him during the battle at Gettysburg.
He was a builder of bridges. Stories have it that he was a sleepwalkerand would walk the bridge trestles. The boys would follow him to makesure he was alright, but wouldn't wake him for fear of him falling.
